ORGANIC JUICE & VEGETABLE - BIOTTA II

Tuesday, May 18, 2010 by Jennifer C
I recently read a short note on Natural Healing Guide's website about a substance found in potatoes at that I never knew existed.  It's called atropine, and it is present in all of the "Nightshade Family" of vegetables.  Atropine, in small amounts, actually works wonders in helping alleviate gastrointestinal pains and cramps.

Simply drinking a glass of
Biotta's organic potato juice before or after a meal can help the body digest the food pain free!  This is just one of the many benefits that come with drinking potato juice.  Did you know that it has also been linked to clearing up skin blemishes and relieving pain from rheumatism?

Considering a cleanse...
Saturday, May 15, 2010 by Natalie Hadley
I was talking to a friend the other day who said she was planning on doing a body cleanse.  I've heard of people doing them before, but have never really considered one myself.  She started describing what exactly it entailed and what it does to the body and, I must say, it sounded very intriguing.

From what I've read, it sounds like a juice cleanse with organic vegetable juice and fruit juice would be on of the healthiest and most effective types of cleanses to do.  During a juice body cleanse, your body gets a chance to rid itself of toxins that it couldn't if you were eating solid foods.

After reading up on the topic, it looks like a bottle of Biotta's
Breakfast Blend for breakfast, some Beet Juice for lunch, and Carrot Juice for dinner may be a good place to start.

Anyone out there ever done a juice cleanse and have any advice?

Greetings from a new blogger!

Potatoes Have a History!
Thursday, May 6, 2010 by Jennifer C
Did you know that there was actually a time when people were resistant to eating potatoes and didn't see any nutritional value in them?  That is exactly what happened when potatoes first entered Europe!**

Potatoes had been around for the past 7,000 years in the Andes, but it wasn't until the 1800s after they made their way to Europe when one French scientist discovered the nutritional value in the potatoes and tried to convince the public of their worth.  They resisted.

He then developed a plan to plant a field of potatoes and put guards around them, the locals realized that they must be very valuable items, so the snuck in, stole them, and planted their own! It was only a matter of time until they were one of the most popular foods across Europe and, later, America!

Of course today, we do not have any trouble seeing the nutritional value in potatoes and
organic potato juice.  It is one of the most effective natural ways to aid in digestive problems and indigestion.  Also, potato juice benefits everything from rheumatism to swelling!

High Blood Pressure? BEET IT!
Monday, May 3, 2010 by Jennifer C
High blood pressure is a serious problem for thousands of Americans.  Many people, including sufferers, don't know the list of effects that high blood pressure can have on the body.  High blood pressure is the leading cause of strokes, it can cause blood vessels in the eye to rupture causing blindness, and it also can lead to kidney failure!

Luckily, scientists have found a simple solution to combating and preventing high blood pressure:
Beet Juice!

Scientists have performed numerous studies and found that many patients saw their blood pressure decrease after consuming beet juice.

Here is how it works, according to
the article:
Nitrate in the beet juice is converted by bacteria living on the tongue into the chemical nitrite. Once it enters the stomach, it becomes nitric oxide or re-enters the blood stream as nitrite. The researchers found that blood pressure was at its lowest when the nitrite levels in the blood were at their highest.

The recommended use is two glasses of juice a day for the effects to take place.  If you want to learn about beet juice benefits, check out the
Biotta website!

Celery Juice- A Home Remedy for Kidney Stones?
Sunday, May 2, 2010 by Jennifer C
Thousands of people every year find themselves struck with one of the most painful experiences a person can face- A Kidney Stone.  Kidney stones are a collection of salt and other minerals that exist in urine, but usually are small enough to pass through with every noticing.  However, there are times that they can build up and try to pass through the urethra and end up stuck.  Anyone who's ever had a kidney stone will tell you that it is one of the worst pains a human can encounter.

Luckily, after doing
a little research, I found a natural way to help cure kidney stones and prevent them from occurring!  Celery juice contains a compound that helps to break down the stone-forming abilities of your body.  A glass of celery juice a day can help to prevent future stones form forming.

Biotta Juices is a proud carrier of celery juice!  It is available in a 16.9oz bottle and is available today from one of our many vendors located across the country!

In an article on SheKnows.com regarding the "Top 10 Ways to Boost Your Immune System", we were thrilled to see that we made it on the list!  The article highlighted three of Biotta's delicious juices, including beet juice, elderberry juice, and our vegetable juice cocktail!

Here is an excerpt:

The Vegetable Cocktail Juice is ripe with organically-derived immunity-upping nutrients from carrots, beets, celeriac, and tomatoes. Biotta has a total of 11 organic juices, all of which are considered functional juices in that each targets a specific health issue. Fast Food? or (Quality) Food Fast?
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 by Jennifer C
In the past few weeks, fast food has been all over the headlines... Why? KFC's announcement of their newest... sandwich?  The "Double Down" has definitely taken fast food to a new level.  The sandwich consists of bacon, cheese, and the "Colonel's Special Sauce" between two pieces of boneless chicken breasts acting as the bun.

It packs a whopping 540 calories and over 30 grams of fat, not to mention 60% of your daily intake of sodium.

I could now insert a few statistics covering all the reasons why this is unhealthy for the body, but I think you could probably venture to fill in those blanks yourself.  Instead, I'm going to turn to the focus over to the selection of
Biotta Juices you can find across the country.

It's a no-brainer, really, when you compare the benefits you get from a glass of organic vegetable juice or fruit juice compared to a 500+ calorie sandwich value meal from a fast food restaurant.

Stomach Problems? Turn to Potato Juice...
Monday, April 26, 2010 by Jennifer C
There has been plenty of press recently over the negative eating habits of Americans.  With somewhat unhealthy, unbalanced diets, there has also been a rise in digestive problems.  Obviously, one of the easiest ways to alleviate issues would be changing to a balanced diet.  However, for those currently suffering from pain and discomfort, there is a natural remedy that may be able to help- Organic Potato Juice.

It has long history of curing digestive problems.  Today, researchers and health guru's still speak outwardly about the benefits of potatoes.

According to Yogawiz.com, "Potato juice is therefore a healthy drink to stimulate the digestive system and protect the stomach from various disorders. Raw juice also helps balance the acid condition and acts as a natural anti inflammatory drink. Stomach ulcers, rheumatoid arthritis and liver disorders can be treated by consuming raw potato juice. The juice benefits the digestive system by drastically reducing the chances of constipation."

If you are suffering from digestive problems, we strongly recommend looking into a bottle of Biotta Juice!  All of our fresh juices will help aid your body in various areas of your health.

Why YOU Should Go Organic!
Friday, April 23, 2010 by Jennifer C
Recently, I found a great Top 10 List from the Organic Trade Commission, breaking down some major reasons why YOU should support organic products and organic farmers!  I've included the list below:
Organic products meet stringent standards
Organic certification is the public’s assurance that products have been grown and handled according to strict procedures without persistent toxic chemical inputs.
Organic food tastes great!
It’s common sense – well-balanced soils produce strong, healthy plants that become nourishing food for people and animals.

Organic production reduces health risks
Many EPA-approved pesticides were registered long before extensive research linked these chemicals to cancer and other diseases. Organic agriculture is one way to prevent any more of these chemicals from getting into the air, earth and water that sustain us.

Organic farms respect our water resources
The elimination of polluting chemicals and nitrogen leaching, done in combination with soil building, protects and conserves water resources.
Organic farmers build healthy soil
Soil is the foundation of the food chain. The primary focus of organic farming is to use practices that build healthy soils.

Organic farmers work in harmony with nature
Organic agricultural respects the balance demanded of a healthy ecosystem: wildlife is encouraged by including forage crops in rotation and by retaining fence rows, wetlands, and other natural areas.

Organic producers are leaders in innovative research
Organic farmers have led the way, largely at their own expense, with innovative on-farm research aimed at reducing pesticide use and minimizing agriculture’s impact on the environment.

Organic producers strive to preserve diversity
The loss of a large variety of species (biodiversity) is one of the most pressing environmental concerns. The good news is that many organic farmers and gardeners have been collecting and preserving seeds, and growing unusual varieties for decades.

Organic farming helps keep rural communities healthy
USDA reported that in 1997, half of U.S. farm production came from only 2% of farms. Organic agriculture can be a lifeline for small farms because it offers an alternative market where sellers can command fair prices for crops.
Organic abundance – Foods and non-foods alike!
Now every food category has an organic alternative. And non-food agricultural products are being grown organically – even cotton, which most experts felt could not be grown this way.

As you know,
Biotta Juices is 100% dedicated to the Organic movement!  Every one of our fruits and veggies is organically grown to produce the highest quality fresh juices imaginable.

I think we can all agree that one of the worst social situations to find yourself is realizing that you, yourself, or someone you're talking to is having a case of bad breath...

While mints and gum are obviously the go-to response for many people, they provide minimal-to-no nutritional value.  Wouldn't it be convenient to conclude your lunch with a nutrient-rich drink that would also work to rid any chances of bad breath? Great news! There is a solution!

According to
NaturalCures.com, juice can actually work very well in getting rid of bad breath!

The entry explains- The following fresh juice combinations can help alleviate bad breath symptoms and also help GI disturbances that may be a contributing factor: Carrot and celery with parsley, spinach, watercress, alfalfa, comfrey, or beet tops; wheat grass juice; green juice; and carrot, spinach, and cucumber.

It amazes me how the list of
carrot juice benefits and celery juice benefits continue to grow and grow!  Also, the benefits of including beets and their juice in your diet seems like the smartest health decision you can make!

Why Use Glass Bottles?
Sunday, April 18, 2010 by Jennifer C
You may wonder why we choose to use glass bottles in packaging our juices? We have a few reasons behind this idea...

Glass provides the best product protection.  Our glass bottles are non-gas-permeable, meaning
that undesired elements cannot get into the product and nothing is able to escape from the bottle! (Especially flavor!)  Glass bottles also have the longest shelf life, which is important to maintaining the quality in all of our fresh juices!

Another motivation behind using glass revolves around taste.  Glass is completely tasteless!
According to a 2004 study, 72% of consumers find glass ideal packaging for organic products.  They find glass to be hygienic, appetizing, recyclable, tasteless and practical.

Just like every other aspect of our company,
Biotta is dedicated to creating the best produce possible for our consumers.  That is why we pay special attention to details in every aspect of the process, from the cultivation, to the picking, to the packaging! We want to make our 100% organic juice perfect for you!

Carrots have HISTORY!
Friday, April 9, 2010 by Jennifer C
Obviously, we all know about the major health benefits of carrots today, but did you know that carrots have been a popular part of civilizations dating back over 5000 years!  It's true!

According to
an article on the history of carrots, "Both the ancient Greeks and the Romans were familiar with carrots, although these early varieties were not the sweet, succulent orange carrots that are grown today. Early carrots were typically not often eaten as food by the Greeks, but were used for medicinal purposes."

How amazing is that!  5,000 years ago people knew that carrots were perfect in aiding in medical conditions.  Granted, they used carrots for things like syphilis and animal bites, but they knew carrots were packed full of healthy nutrients.

Today, carrots are still one one of the healthiest veggies we can eat!  In fact, drinking organic carrot juice has been linked to helping develop good vision, benefits nursing mothers, as well as a long list of other benefits.a

To experience the long list of health benefits today, why not order a bottle of
Biotta's organic carrot juice today and see for yourself!

Beets- One of the "Worlds Healthiest Foods"
Thursday, April 8, 2010 by Jennifer C
I was on the website WHFoods.com (Worlds Healthiest Foods) recently and was so excited to see a very long listing for one of our top selling juices- Beets!  If you have kept up with this blog, it is no surprise to you that we love our beets, and we love telling you about the health benefits that come with drinking Biotta's Organic Juice!

Here is a short excerpt from the article on
WHFoods.com:
"...not only did protective antioxidant activity increase in the livers of beet fiber-fed animals, but also their total cholesterol dropped 30%, their triglycerides dropped 40% (elevated triglycerides, the form in which fats are transported in the blood, are a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease), and their HDL (beneficial cholesterol) level increased significantly."

Beet juice benefits many areas of the body, and heart health is no exception.  In fact, many scientists claim that beets could be one of the best foods you can eat for heart health!

When I'm looking at buying anything at the store, I first have to ask myself one question: Why should I buy this product?

With some products, there is a simple answer...

Why buy
Elderberry Juice?
  • It helps to fight infections
  • Reduces the risk of stomach ulcers
  • Prevents urinary tract infections
  • Boosts immunity to fight the cold or flu
  • Elderberries have TWICE the amount of antioxidants as blueberries and cranberries.
If those reasons aren't enough to look into ordering a bottle of Biotta's Elderberry Juice, I don't know what is! We have heard directly from scientists and consumers how effective Elderberries are at benefiting the body and we love to share that with you!  Click here to see where to order your bottle today!

Attention Nursing Mothers! Turn to Carrot Juice!
Tuesday, April 6, 2010 by Jennifer C
Pregnant and nursing mothers are usually constantly given advice on all the ways to make sure that their body is in top shape for both themselves, as well as the baby.  It turns out that Carrot Juice can be added to that list!

According to
Home Remedies for You, "Nursing mothers are well advised, for the sake of the quality of their milk, to take carrot juice throughout lactation."  They also provide advise to pregnant women, "When the baby is on its way it is good sense not only to drink the juice but also to nibble a carrot when you feel hungry."

Organic Carrot Juice is filled with health benefits for your body, and this is just another major bonus!  Don't forget that carrot juice also is packed full of essential vitamins and minerals that we all need to be taking in every day!

The American Heart Association: Don't Forget About the Kids
Monday, April 5, 2010 by Jennifer C
Did you know that obesity is the number one concern for children in America today?  Parents are more concerned about that than they are drugs or smoking.  As health problems for children continue to grow, so does the emphasis on parents to make sure to intervene and make sure their children are living healthy lifestyles.

The
American Heart Association provides many helpful resources to parents that help create a healthy environment for their children.  They give a list of ways to help teach your children about making healthy decisions...
  1. Be a role model- Your children are learning from you!  No, you don't always have to do everything perfect, but just keep in mind that you are the example they are learning from.
  2. Keep the family moving- Plan ways to get everyone active together.  Maybe a family walk, or yard work.
  3. Pick rewarding rewards- Don't make TV or video games a reward, give them healthy rewards that will benefit their bodies.
  4. Stay involved-  Be an advocate!  Teach your children and other children.  Provide a way for them to learn and grow in knowledge.
It's important to remember that Biotta Juices are not just for "grown-ups."  The same health benefits that you find in our heart healthy juice can help your children too.

Maybe instead of sugary, artificially flavored juice in the morning you give your kids a glass of Biotta's
Breakfast Blend?  Or a glass of Beet Juice that will help boost their immune system and provide them with many of the vitamins they need!

The American Heart Association: Heart-Smart Shopping
Sunday, April 4, 2010 by Jennifer C
The American Heart Association, which is dedicated to educating the public about ways to make changes that will benefit their hearts and bodies, does a great job of providing valuable information on their website that can help anyone looking to make a change.  I recently found a "shopping guide" that helps consumers shop smart and buy heart healthy foods.

One of the more emphasized areas, the fruits and vegetables, struck me as very interesting:
  • Be sure to buy and eat plenty of fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables.  Fruits and vegetables that are deeply colored throughout – such as spinach, carrots, peaches and berries – tend to be higher in vitamins and minerals than others, such as potatoes and corn.
  • When fresh foods aren't available, choose frozen or canned vegetables and fruits in water without added sugars, saturated and trans fat, or salt
  • Buy more fruits and vegetables that are good sources of fiber, including beans, peas, oranges, bananas, strawberries and apples.
  • Stock up on raw vegetables for snacks such as carrot and celery sticks, broccoli, cherry tomatoes and cauliflower.
  • For desserts, buy fresh or canned fruits (in water without added sugars), dried fruit (without added sugars), and gelatin that contains fruit, instead of baked goods and sweets.
As a Biotta enthusiast, I loved reading about the need for people to stock up on organic vegetable juice and fruit juice!  Every one of these bits of advice lead you straight to the fresh juices Biotta is dedicated to providing.

We've always known that we provide heart healthy juice that has
no added sugar or caffeine, but it's great to have the AHA reminding everyone about the importance of a healthy diet!

If you're convinced and are looking to buy a bottle today, just click on the button below to see a listing of a few of our many retailers!
Saturday, April 3, 2010 by Jennifer C
When it comes to your health, the American Heart Association has a very simple viewpoint-

At the heart of health is good nutrition.

The AHA sees all areas of your health as matters of nutrition.  If you want to have an effect on your heart or your weight, it has to start with your diet.  The AHA website lists seven keys to healthy eating to focus on:
  1. Don’t smoke
  2. Maintain a healthy weight
  3. Engage in regular physical activity
  4. Eat a healthy diet
  5. Manage blood pressure
  6. Take charge of cholesterol
  7. Keep blood sugar, or glucose, at healthy levels.
They seem like simple changes, and they are, but too often they are overlooked for convenience.  You can start making a major change in your diet simply by eliminating things like sugary soft drinks and snacks and replacing them with heart healthy juice!

Biotta's wide selection of organic vegetable juice and fruit juice can help you get a jump start on healthy living!  Each bottle of Biotta's juice is packed full of the essential vitamins and minerals to benefit your body!

Recently, I was spending the weekend in Cincinnati with some friends.  While there, we decided to head to Jungle Jim's, one of the largest international food markets in the country.  You can find just about any food from any country in the world!  Many people have called it a theme park for food lovers!  As we wandered the aisles checking out the selection, I was so pleasantly surprised to see this sight:

There it was! The full selection of Biotta Organic Juices! They stuck out in the organic foods section with the large variety of juices!

We love finding our products in stores around the country.  What we love even more is when retailers who carry our juices take a few minutes to fill out a
form on our website and make it easy for consumers in the area to find where to find the fresh juices!

If you are a retailer and carry Biotta or if you are a customer looking to buy some Biotta, just click on one of the links below.  As for consumers in the Cincinnati area, I highly suggest heading over to Jungle Jim's and picking up a bottle of
beet juice, potato juice, or any of our other juices today!

This is the fifth post in a series looking at how cutting caffeine out of your diet could cause positive effects on your body.  We've looked at how it affects you skin, you blood pressure, and more, but today's topic deals with something that everyone has to keep in mind- Sleep.

Adults today are still recommended at get 8 hours of sleep every night.  It is hard enough already to reach that, so including something like caffeine in your diet will only make things worse.

One
article online claimed, "Heavy caffeine users suffer from sleep-deprivation because their nervous system is too stimulated to allow them deep, restful or prolonged sleep."

Sleep deprivation can also have some

A Very... Interesting Story about Potato Juice...
Wednesday, March 31, 2010 by Jennifer C
A woman recently wrote into a "Healthy Living" website with a very interesting story.  She had been suffering for years with digestive problems.  Just about anything she eats or any strenuous activity seems to cause a great deal of pain.  And then one day she went to see a Palm Reader in Key West and the man had some very insightful advice:  "He told me to drink the juice of 1 raw potato, 1 raw carrot, and a handful of grapes, every morning for a month."

She said that she was skeptical but did some research and found the following information on potato juice:

Raw Potato Juice Has the Following Medicinal Virtues:
  • It is one of the most alkaline foods
  • It dissolves away uric acid and lime
  • It helps prevent the fermentative process in the intestines
  • It helps the growth of friendly bacteria in the digestive tract
Raw potato juice has been used to benefit scurvy, rheumatism, digestive system disorders, skin blemishes, swelling, and I even found an article about the benefits of drinking raw potato juice to help cure cancer!

She ended up trying the diet for a while and had this to say:

It’s been a few weeks now… I feel stronger, more energized, and it’s getting easier for me to push my abs to do more without strain.  My food and diet choices are changing too.  Don’t know who’s out there reading this that’s looking for something interesting to consider for improved digestion, but you might look into the benefits of potato juice and see if it’s appropriate for you!

Beet Juice is Perfect for Athletes
Tuesday, March 30, 2010 by Jennifer C
Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld is a big fan of beets.  He has reported on Fox News about the long list of benefits of beet juice and during one clip he talks about the benefits athletes can find drinking beet juice.

"If you take two glasses of beet juice a day," says Rosenfeld, "and you're an athlete or a would be athlete, or if you're elderly and need more energy, two glasses of beet juice a day will increase your energy level significantly...  What it does is it increases the oxygen demand when you're exercising."

Beets are full of nitrates that cause this to happen.  By drinking a couple of glasses, you will be in a better position to work out than with simply hydrating (although you should never omit water from you diet).

Ever wondered what exactly it means when a juice advertises itself as being "100% Juice?"  If you're interested in Biotta's juices, this would be a piece of information you would probably like to know!

Nearly every one of our juices are 100% Juice.  This means that there is nothing else added in.  No additives, preservatives, or anything else that may lead it to being "from concentrate."  Mixed juices can only be 100% Juice if all included fruits or vegetables are 100% pure.

Here is the breakdown of Biotta's Juices:

100% Juice
Beet
Carrot
Vegetable Juice Cocktail (in this case, the 'cocktail' denotes a blend of vegetable juices)
Bruess® Vegetable Juice
Celery
Sauerkraut
Potato

Fruit juices are typically too tart or strong to consume at 100% juice.  Therefore, we blend our organic fruit juices with other juices as well as tea extracts to make them more palatable.

74% Juice
Breakfast Blend

70% Juice
Elderberry

Sauerkraut Has a History!
Saturday, March 27, 2010 by Jennifer C
As you look through this blog and across the Biotta website, you'll find many pages giving information about the health benefits of sauerkraut and its juice.  I found an interesting article online today that shows just how historic sauerkraut's health benefits stretch back.

Back in the late 18th Century, Captain James Cook was one of the most prominent explorers in the world.  He would take crews of men out to sea months at a time.  One thing that made him a successful captain was his emphasis on the crew's diet. Captain Cook stopped anywhere that he could find to buy fruits and vegetables for his crew because he knew that healthy eating would lead to more success at sea. He discovered that eating sauerkraut and drinking the juice could actually prevent scurvy!

Now, although scurvy isn't much of a health concern today, it is interesting to see just how long people have known about the health benefits found in sauerkraut juice! Today, sauerkraut has been linked to helping prevent cancer, to building immunity, to helping in digestion.

Aiding Digestion with Potato Juice
Friday, March 26, 2010 by Jennifer C
Many scientists are claiming that American's poor diets these days have resulted in more digestion problems.  While one of the best ways to fix this problem would be balancing out meals with healthy portions from all of the food groups, there are some vegetables that seem to work particularly well at helping the digestive system.

Potato Juice has long held the reputation for being one of the most effective ways to soothr the stomach.  Potato Juice has been shown to do the followin
g**:
  •  Balance the acid condition and acts as a natural anti inflammatory drink.
  •  Treat stomach ulcers, rheumatoid arthritis and liver disorders
  •  Drastically reduce the chances of constipation.
  •  Helps treat gastritis and gastrointestinal disorders.

Over the past few posts, I have focused on everything from caffeine and its effect on your heart health and skin health.  The more research I do into caffeine, the more I see how much your body can benefit from eliminating it from your diet, or at least reducing intake.

Today's focus is something that occasionally gets overlooked- Caffeine Addiction.

Many times you'll hear people claim that they "Can't function until I've had my coffee!"  This usually comes off jokingly, but the health implications are not a joke.  Not only are people causing damage to the body through the caffeine, but the withdraw can also take a major toll on the body when caffeine is not ingested.

According to
MedicineNet.com, "A review and analysis of the effects of caffeine abstinence in humans claims that the withdrawal symptoms experienced are proof of physical dependence. These symptoms include headache, tiredness/fatigue, decreased energy/activeness, decreased alertness/attentiveness, drowsiness/sleepiness, decreased contentedness/well-being, depressed mood, difficulty concentrating, irritability, and felling muzzy/foggy/not clearheaded."

The article also claims that these effects start about 12 hours after your last
caffeinated drink and can last up to 50 hours!

It's safe to say that anything that causes that much dependence on the body is not good for it.  This is exactly why
Biotta has always been dedicated to providing caffeine-free, organic vegetable juices and fruit juices.

Just a few years ago, the classic food pyramid was replaced by a newly designed pyramid that made it easier for people to follow the recommendations and be smart when choosing what they are eating and drinking.

After looking over the full list of vegetables, its great to see that ALL FIVE of
Biotta's Organic Vegetable Juices are included on the list of recommended vegetables.  Whether you want to have a glass of carrot juice with breakfast or some celery juice before a workout, you will get all of the vegetable benefits through our juices.

The question most people have is, "How many servings should I have every day?"

Although it varies with age and gender, the recommended servings per day is 2.5-3 cups.  (For a breakdown of what a "cup" is and a weekly plan,

Celery and Potato Juices are Packed Full of Potassium
Tuesday, March 23, 2010 by Jennifer C
Bananas seem to steal all of the spotlight when it comes to potassium, but celery juice and potato juice actually contain a very high amount of potassium.

Most people don't actually know what potassium does, we just know that we need it.  According to the
University of Maryland, "Potassium is crucial to heart function and plays a key role in skeletal and smooth muscle contraction, making it important for normal digestive and muscular function, too."

Scientists also claim that if you include a lot of salt in your diet, it is especially important for you to get plenty of potassium.  Today, most Americans get less than 50 percent of the suggested 4,700 milligrams of potassium per day!

If you are worried that you may not be getting your recommended amount of potassium each day, check out Biotta's
Celery Juice and Potato Juice today and see how you an start incorporating them into your diet!

Before Summer Hits, Stock Up On Celery Juice
Monday, March 22, 2010 by Jennifer C
As the temperature is rising, everyone is getting ready to spend the summer outside, playing sports and engaging in all sorts of other activities.  But with strenuous activity and high temperatures, we are constantly reminded to make sure we stay hydrated.

According to an article online, "Ideal in tropical climates, celery juice is a natural coolant and protector in hot weather. A glass of organic celeriac juice will keep you dry and comfortable, while those around you perspire. Great if you enjoy a vigorous workout like I do, celery juice can be used as a natural sports drink to replace valuable fluid and mineral loss due to sweating."

While sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade are packed full of added sugars and artificial flavors,
Biotta's juice has no added sugars, meaning your body can get the most hydration possible!

Why Juice?
Sunday, March 21, 2010 by Jennifer C
Some people may wonder, "Why drink juice? Why not just eat the fruits and vegetables that I normally would be eating?"  Although there is nothing wrong with eating your mashed potatoes or steamed carrots, there are juicing benefits!

According to Rasham Nassar in her article '
Juice Appeal lets you eat your vegetables with a straw,' we have lost a great deal of nutrients in our food thanks to a poor diet and lack of exercise. "When we blend our fruits and vegetables," Nassar says, "we are in a sense bypassing the processing of digestion, going straight from sippy cup to bloodstream, therefore eliminating the risk of a possible loss of valuable vitamins and minerals in our diets."

Rasham makes some very good points.  Drinking organic vegetable juice ensures that we are getting every bit of the nutritional benefits packed inside.  There is no room for vitamins or minerals to get lost in the process.

Biotta's vegetable juice line contains the following juices- Beet, Carrot, Celery, Potato, Sauerkraut, and our Vegetable Juice Cocktail.  To find more information on these juices, check out our vegetable products page on our website!

One of the most common questions asked by our consumers is this: How do Biotta Juices retain their vitamins?  We have always been dedicated to providing the healthiest, most delicious juices possible and we keep that in mind during the preparation and packaging processes.

In order to keep the full level of vitamins in our juices, we have to pay attention to the pasteurization process and the temperature in which we prepare the juices.

The longer pasteurization process and the higher the temperature, the greater the damage to the vitamins in any product.  Biotta uses a gentle method of pasteurization, which retains the greatest possible quantity of vital nutrients.  The juice is heated quickly (but to a very low temperature) and immediately cooled down again.  The production continues using as few stages as possible.  Oxygen is excluded as much as possible, hindering oxidation and the resulting loss of vitamins.

100% non-gas-permeable glass packaging is used.  Glass provides the best product protection and no undesired external elements (oxygen) can permeate the product, resulting in the best vitamin retention.  UV-rays (light influence) can break down vitamins, which is why Biotta products are packaged in closed cartons for storage and transportation.

There has always been a common theme at Biotta- We care about everything that goes into our product. We pay attention to the preparing, the packaging, the storing, the shipping, and the impact it's all having on the environment!
Amazing Results from a Study on Beet Juice
Friday, March 19, 2010 by Jennifer C
Recently, a group of scientists started researching the effect of beet juice on cancerous cells.  The study found that beet juice has a particularly strong attack on cells that can become colon cancer.

According to the research:

In one study, animals under the double stress of chemically induced colon cancer and high cholesterol were divided into two groups. One group received a diet high in beet fiber while the other group served as a control. The beet fiber-fed animals rose to the challenge by increasing their activity of two antioxidant enzymes in the liverglutathione peroxidase and glutathione-S-transferase. They are the bodyguards for liver cells, protecting them from free radical attack, so they can continue to protect us.

In other animal studies, scientists have noted that animals fed beet fiber had an increase in their number of colonic CD8 cells, special immune cells responsible for detecting and eliminating abnormal cells. With the increased surveillance provided by these additional CD8 cells, the animals in one of the studies given beet fiber had fewer pre-cancerous changes.

No Time For A Healthy Breakfast? Think Again...
Wednesday, March 17, 2010 by Jennifer C
Mornings and I have never gotten along that well.  By the time I drag myself out of bed, get ready for the day, run around the house trying to gather everything I'm going to need before I leave, you could probably guess that breakfast can easily get left out of the morning routine.

Sometimes it's just a toaster pastry, maybe a small glass of milk, but rarely anything that will fill me up and definitely not something with nutritional value.  This is all too sad, considering that many doctors consider breakfast the most important meal of the day!

Biotta's Breakfast Juice is the perfect kick start for your day!  It contains everything you could hope to get from a normal breakfast that you never have time for!  It also provides a great energy boost while at the same time, providing a healthy blend of fruits and other organic ingredients.  Like all of the fresh juices from Biotta, our Breakfast Blend does not contain any caffeine, added flavors, or added sugars and is 100% organic juice!

"Carrots should be considered a goldmine of natural vitamins and nutrients..."

"Among other raw vegetable juices, carrot juice is an absolute leader in the context of the variety of its therapeutic effects, the contents of useful elements and its compatibility with other juices or foods..."

"No other vegetable contains as much beta carotene as carrots..."

Here are just a few of the statements I found on GuideToHerbalRemedies.com while researching how carrot juice benefits the body.  Pretty bold claims, huh?  Well, I suppose you are allowed to make such bold claims when they are 100% true...  Carrot juice truly is one of the healthiest things for the body.

We have probably all heard that carrot juice is packed full of beta carotene, and the major connection between beta carotene and vision.  However, vision is not the only thing benefited by carrot juice.  Drinking carrot juice also helps to relieve stress and aid in the digestion process!

Why Did We Choose To Go Organic?
Sunday, March 14, 2010 by Jennifer C
Many people may be asking why the popularity of organic foods has risen so much recently.  Also, you may wonder why Biotta made the decision to produce only organic vegetable juice and fruit juices.  To put it simply, organic foods and drinks are 100%... organic.  In the growth, harvesting, and processing phase, things like pesticides, artificial flavors and preservatives are never used.

What does this mean for the body?  According to
Weightlossandtraining.com, "So is organic food better for you? Well if you consider that decreasing your toxin burden and increasing your intake of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants can have a significant impact on health, then it certainly is."

Going organic was never a "joining the fad" decision for Biotta.  We've been doing it since the beginning - we're a pioneer in organic farming and production.  Our  mission is to promote good health and vitality.  Being organic supports that mission.  If you are looking for more information on our products, check out our
organic carrot juice, beet juice, elderberry juice, or any of our other juices today!

Replace Diet Soda with Beet Juice
Saturday, March 13, 2010 by Jennifer C
So yesterday, I talked about putting down the empty calories/sugar-laden soda and replace it with Biotta's vitamin and mineral-rich vegetable juices.  Here is some more information in support of that - even if you are drinking DIET soda:

Registered dietitian Patti Milligan recently did an
interview with an Alabama news station where she gave her expert opinion on drinking healthy beverages.

While most people think that switching to diet soda is the biggest step to losing weight, Patti disagrees.  "The amount of chemicals in diet soda really play havoc with the metabolic furnace - which is your liver. It does not crank up metabolism," Milligan explained.

The truth is, if you want to move toward a healthier diet, you're going to have to drink more nutritious beverages throughout the day.  She listed five drinks to consider switching to.  One of the juices she emphasized the most- Beet Juice!

"The compounds in [beet juice] are related to nitrates and they seem to help convert in the body a better utilization of our oxygen," Milligan said.

We are so excited to see beet juice getting the love it deserves!  We have known for years just how much beet juice benefits the body's immune system and circulatory system... When are you going to find out for yourself?

What is Sauerkraut Juice good for?
Saturday, March 13, 2010 by Jennifer C
What do most people think of when they think of sauerkraut?  Probably German food and bratwurst?  Although those may be common things to associate sauerkraut with, all of us here at Biotta believe it's about time to start looking into the many health benefits that come from drinking sauerkraut juice!

Sauerkraut is actually one of the best foods when it comes to helping aid your digestive system.  According to
Sauerkraut.com, "Sauerkraut is one of the few foods that contain the bacterium Lactobacilli plantarum. L. planatarum is a very dominant strain of healthful bacteria which helps your digestive system."

Organic Sauerkraut Juice also works as an immune booster!  "Sauerkraut contains phytochemicals which are created during the fermentation process.
These naturally occurring, beneficial
by-products of sauerkraut help boost the immune system, which leads to a decrease in a number of health problems.
"

Bugs Bunny had it all figured out...
Thursday, March 11, 2010 by Jennifer C
I have a feeling that Bugs Bunny would have been the perfect spokesperson for Biotta Juice's Carrot Juice.  I can picture the commercial now...

First, he would pop out of the hole and tell us about the important connection between beta carotene and vision.
Biotta's carrot juice is packed full of Vitamin A and Beta Carotene which is essential to improve and maintain healthy vision.
Second, he would remind us that it is a completely organic juice with no added sugars, coloring or flavors.  In fact, the juice is 100% vegetable juice and free of preservatives and caffeine.

Finally, he would trick Elmer Fudd into falling for his own trap... What a Silly Wabbit...

Since that commercial hasn't been created yet, I suppose you'll have to settle for our
website, which has more information on our carrot juice, as well as all of our other juices available!

The Benefits of Cutting Out Caffeine! (Part 2)
Wednesday, March 10, 2010 by Jennifer C
In the last "Cutting Out Caffeine" post, I brought forth some of the major concerns about the effects that caffeine has on the body's ability to absorb important vitamins and minerals.  Today, I would like to switch the focus to a couple other very important health problem that caffeine poses- heart rate and energy.

Caffeine is a stimulant.  According to Dr. Dan Rutherford from
Netdoctor.co.uk, "Caffeine overstimulates the central nervous system, increasing your heart rate and blood pressure."  Although studies have not concluded that caffeine causes long term problems for everyone, there is no denying that it can lead to those problems in some.

One of the most popular uses for caffeine-filled drinks is for an energy boost.  It has an impact on the body's energy levels" Dr. Rutherford claims,  "Following the initial energy surge, your levels fall due to the lowering of blood sugar."  Caffeine actually causes adverse effects!

Here at
Biotta Juices, we intentionally created a line of Heart Healthy Juice that would be packed full of vitamins and nutrients that will help the body.  It is easy to see why none of our juices* include caffeine.  We are dedicated to making our products as good for you as possible.  If you want to check out the full selection of the Best Organic Juice on the market, just click here to see our full product line!

Too many options? BLEND them all together!
Tuesday, March 9, 2010 by Jennifer C
The only problem you could face going through our product list is trying to decide just which one of our heart healthy juice you would like to incorporate into your diet... For those of you who might struggle with this, why not start off with a delicious vegetable juice cocktail from Biotta?

What's in our vegetable juice cocktail?
  • Tomatoes- Tomatoes include lycopene and according to Livestrong.com, "Lycopene gives the tomato its red color and has been found to have antioxidant and cancer-preventing properties."
  • Carrots- "The high traces of beta carotene boost the anti-oxidant properties of carrot juice. It is the beta carotene that converts into vitamin A inside the body. The vitamin A fights to eliminate the free radicals in the body and hence fights cancer." (Home Remedies for You)
  • Celery- According to Naturalnews.com, celery juice lowers cholesterol, aids in digestion, is a diuretic, an anti inflammatory, lowers blood pressure, as well as many more health benefits!
  • Beets- Just check out this previous Biotta blog post on the benefits of drinking beet juice, including its heart healthy and cancer fighting qualities.

Potatoes are delicious.  You can do so many things with them and they are always so good!  However, it seems like one very important aspect of the potato is always overlooked- Potato Juice!

Scientists have long looked at potato juice as one of the best remedies for digestive problems and one of the best ways to keep your digestive system going strong and healthy!

Studies have shown that the juice benefits the following areas:
  • If you are suffering from constipation, you should drink half a cup of potato juice in the morning.
  • Helps heal intestinal ulcers
  • Helps reduce the pain of people suffering from Rheumatism and Gout
  • Also, it helps to clear up patches of eczema (especially when mixed with some of Biotta's Carrot Juice!)
Like all of our other organic juices, our potato juice contains no caffeine and no added sugar!  It is currently available in a 16.9 oz. bottle and you can find out where to order it by clicking here!

Body cleanse with beets? It's true!
Sunday, March 7, 2010 by Jennifer C
Beet juice has always been referred to as a cleansing juice.  It helps to clean out everything from your kidneys to your blood and your liver.  Beet juice benefits your blood pressure as well!  Many studies believe that beet juice helps to lower blood pressure when drank regularly.

Did you know that drinking beet juice is actually more beneficial than eating the beet itself?  Fact!  When you eat the beet, the fibers you ingest actually slow down the effect of the juice and minimize its impact.  But when you drink the fresh juice, you receive the maximum benefits!

A Very Informative Press Release
Saturday, March 6, 2010 by Jennifer C
I stumbled upon this press release today put out by PR Log... It is titled: "Beat Heart Attack & Hypertension with Miracle Juice"  The book Miracle Juicing breaks down many of the major benefits of drinking fruit and vegetable juice.

Here is a small sampling of the juicing benefits they listed in the press release:
  • Juices are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients that are easily assimilated within fifteen minutes of drinking. The juice is quickly distributed throughout the body to build, heal, repair and restore optimum health.
  • Juices cleanse the blood, which is the body’s lifeline. Clean blood loaded with nutrients will ensure a healthy long life.
  • Juicing helps to pre-digest food so that it can be easily absorbed by the body.
  • Juicing removes indigestible fiber. If a carrot is eaten, one may only get 1% of the beta-carotene, but if it's juiced, 100% of the important beta-carotene will be assimilated.
  • Vegetable and fruit juicing helps to reduce cholesterol, dissolves clogged arteries, reduces the risk of heart attack, reduces high blood pressure, dissolves kidney stones, cleanses the liver, prevents cancers, increases energy and other health benefits
These benefits exist in all of Biotta's convenient, organic vegetable and fruit juices.  All of our heart healthy juices are 100% juice with no added flavors or colors!  Click here for a full list of Biotta products!

This is the first part of a multi-segment series on the health benefits of cutting caffeine out of your diet.

As you may know, all* of Biotta's organic vegetable juice, fruit juice, and blends are 100% caffeine free!  We are dedicated to providing the most healthy juice possible and we know that cutting caffeine is an easy starting point...

Fact #1: Caffeine can prevent your body from absorbing vitamins and minerals.

According to Dr. Dan Rutherford on
NetDoctor.co.uk, "[Caffeine] can increase the excretion of vitamins and minerals from the body, so you won't get the full benefits of healthy foods." When you fill your diet with caffeinated drinks, you are making it more difficult for your body to use all the vitamins and minerals you ingest every day.

Think about it, for every cup of coffee or soda you drink, you can easily be canceling out that healthy breakfast/lunch/dinner you tried to have.  And according to Dr. Rutherford, it can take up to 18 hours for caffeine to completely leave your system, meaning it is with you for the entire day.

Like I mentioned earlier, every one* of Biotta's juices is caffeine free.  For more nutrition information on our elderberry juice, beet juice, or any of our other juices, check out Products page here!

(In the next "Benefits of Cutting Out Caffeine" post- Heart Rate & Energy)

WYSIWYG - What you see is what you get!

At first glance, it may not seem like there would be much of a connection between celery and your kidneys, but surprisingly, that is not the case!  It turns out that the nutrients found in Biotta Juice's Celery Juice help to stimulate kidney function!  Our fresh celery juice helps to neutralize the pH balance in the body, which helps to rid the body of toxins!

You may have seen other organic vegetable juices that claims to keep the body healthy, but Biotta is in a league of their own.  Biotta's juices are caffeine free and sugar free, with no added flavors or colors.  What you see is what you get!  A blend of vegetables and fruits that is pure and healthy.  No hidden ingredients, no gimmicks.

Organic sauerkraut juice from Biotta is one of the most healthy beverages you can drink.  Sauerkraut has many important vitamins and nutrients that help the digestive system.  According to health advisor Andrew Weil:

"
The friendly lactobacilli created in the fermenting process by which cabbage is transformed into sauerkraut aid digestion, increase vitamin levels, produce a variety of beneficial enzymes and promote the growth of healthy flora throughout the digestive tract. "

Just a glass of sauerkraut juice a day can provide many strong health benefits. Also, this organic vegetable juice is high in Vitamin C and very low calorie, making it the perfect beverage for diabetics.

If you're looking to
buy sauerkraut juice today or any of the other many varieties of fruit and vegetable juices, check out our website at the link below!

I hate getting sick.  It seems like every winter I'm struck with it all- a cold, the flu, a sinus infection... you name it, I've had it.  And ever since I had a severe respiratory tract infection a few years ago, I've always suffered from congestion and coughs.

After reading an
article from Natural-HomeRemedies, it became clear to me how easy (and delicious) it can be to attack these problems in the future: Elderberry Juice.

The benefits of elderberry juice are countless, but the respiratory related ones are fascinating.  According to Natural-HomeRemedies:

"When the juice is consumed, the anti-inflammatory properties of the juice work to reduce the amount of mucus secreted.  It drains the mucus out of the body, thereby reducing the signs of nasal congestion."

Whether you're trying to prevent getting sick or trying to get over something, elderberry juice is effective.  While other juices may claim to help against respiratory problems,
Biotta's elderberry juice is the only 100% natural juice that you'll find!

If you're still not completely sold on the idea of shopping Biotta for all of your organic juice needs, then maybe you should check out what some of our satisfied customers and retailers are saying.:

One satisfied customer in Colorado

Wow, what a difference it makes when the juice is from the root. The headaches are subsiding because it's also helping with sinus congestion build-up during my sleep."

Biotta is the real deal.  We have plenty of people telling us that it is doing wonders in their lives and TODAY is the day you should look at making it part of your life!

When we think of calories, we think of them coming from the foods we eat.  When you have a medium cafe latte with whole milk with breakfast, then a 20 oz. regular soda ad lunch, and a 16 oz. sweetened iced tea with lemon mid-day, and glass of wine at dinner, that doesn't sound unreasonable, does it?  After all, they are liquid!

Those 4 beverages amont to 800 calories - or 40% of an average 2,000 calorie daily diet.  And although they keep you hydrated throughout the day, these 800 calories are EMPTY calories.

Sodas, coffee, tea...there is no nutritional benefit to any of these beverages, yet they seem to pack on the calories.  Drinking a 100% organic pure juice, like
Biotta Juice, however, will provide you with the same calories, but with the added benefit of vitamins, minerals and other health benefits, like blood pressure lowering properties of our Beet Juice, and soothing an upset stomach like our Potato Juice.

Juice drinks and waters are often enhanced with vitamins and herbs.  Although at first glance they seem like a healthy alternative to soda, but how much sugar and artificial flavoring doe they contain?

Biotta Juices are 100% pure - not from concentrate and never diluted.  They are packed full of all natural nutrients, and come in 2 sizes of convenient, recyclable glass bottles.

Does Sauerkraut help Canker Sores?
Thursday, February 18, 2010 by Sara Cox
An excerpt from 'The People's Pharmacy' by Joe and Teresa Graedon

Q:  My favorite home remedy is sauerkraut for canker sores.  If I feel one coming on, I put a wad of chopped sauerkraut on the area, hold it there for a minute, then chew it and swallow.  I do this three or four times a day for 2-3 days.  At least 95% of the time, the sore disappears.  For me, that is a miracle, since I have been plagued for many years.

A:  Canker sores (aphthous ulcers) are mysterious.  Trauma to the mouth from sharp food can trigger a sore.  So can immune suppression (chemotherapy) or a deficiency of folic acid, vitamin B-12 and iron.

Long ago, we heard about a 1930's canker-sore remedy.  A dentist recommended swishing sauerkraut juice serveral times a day, swallowing about a tablespoon.  Perhaps the bacteria that ferment cabbage into sauerkraut provide helpful nutrients.

As a sufferer of canker sores, myself, I can relate to this as a miracle!  Many things seem to cause mine - improper eating, lack of sleep and exercise, and of course, those times when the toothbrush slips right into your cheek.  And I thought Sauerkraut Juice was just good for digestion -- watch out canker sores!

Get Healthy as a Family
Wednesday, February 17, 2010 by Sara Cox

Have fruits and vegetables become a thing of the past?

One of today’s fastest growing problems is childhood obesity.  Why are so many kids packing on pounds? For the same reasons adults are: too many calories and too little exercise. "Adults are passing on their unhealthy habits to the next generation," says Colleen Thompson, a dietitian and coauthor of Overcoming Childhood Obesity (Bull, 2003). "Childhood obesity is really a family issue. To fix things, the whole family has to change."  A recent study of 3,000 kids ages 4 to 24 months found that many of the negative eating patterns plaguing adults are affecting children as early as infancy. Not only was fruit and vegetable consumption low, but french fries were the most popular choice of toddlers. Moreover, 40 percent of 7-month-olds and 60 percent of 1-year-olds had candy or dessert at least once a day.

Adopt a Healthier Lifestyle

Some basic things you can do to adopt a healthy lifestyle - for both you and your kids:
1.  Exercise.  Let your kids see you exercise.  Exercise with your kids.
2.  Eat dinner as a family.  Not only can you enjoy some quality time, but eating together helps you know what your kids are actually eating.
3.  Control portions - both for you and your kids.  Just becuase you are the parent, doesn't mean you need to eat 2-3 times as much as the kids.  Don't go back for seconds.  Kids see that and think that is what they are supposed to do.
4.  Model healthy behaviors.  You can't expect your kids to do things that you wouldn't do yourself.  Turn off the tv - eat your fruits and vegetables!
5.  Include healthy snacks and drinks - like
Biotta 100% pure organic fruit and vegetable juices.  This is a great way to increase energy, enjoy a wholesome snack, and get your daily requirements of fruits and vegetables!

Many people have written in asking why we insist on using glass bottles to package our juices.  We have a couple of answers for that question.
One is for flavor.  When you buy sauerkraut juice or potato juice or any of our other juices, you want it tasting fresh, right?  When juices are packaged in plastic containers, the flavor can slowly fade out over time.  When using glass, it retains full flavor from the day it's packaged until the day you open it up!
Another reason is because glass bottles are completely tasteless.  According to a 2004 study by the Karmasin Institute for Motivational Research in Vienna, Austria, 72% of consumers find glass ideal packaging for organic products.  They find glass to be hygienic, appetizing, recyclable, tasteless and practical.
So there you have it.  At Biotta, we are about quality, and glass bottles are guaranteed to give you the best quality juice!

I was no different than most kids growing up.  When my mom told me that I needed to eat my vegetables before I could leave the table, I scowled at her and forced them down... one by one.  At that point in my life, I could not see the benefits that could come from them.

Funny how things change when you grow up... In just a quick glance over
Biotta's fresh juices, you can see that they have a wide selection of vegetable juices that are both nutritious and delicious.  Biotta offers healthy juices made from carrots, celery, sauerkraut (cabbage), and beets.  Studies have been released about the health benefits of each of these amazing vegetables!

Health and Wellness with Biotta Fresh Juices
Wednesday, February 3, 2010 by Jennifer C
It seems like every few months my husband and I renew our commitment to eating healthy, for us and our kids.  It is so easy to fall into the trappings of convenient fast-food and "kid-food", such as chicken nuggets, hot dogs, and macaroni and cheese.  I know deep down, that I can do better than that for my family.

Biotta juices are 100% organic, naturally rich with vitamins and minerals.  The ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers earning our products the "USDA Organic" seal.  I feel confident when I serve these fresh juices to my family that they are receiving healthy ingredients and they taste great, too!

Recycle with Biotta
Monday, February 1, 2010 by Jennifer C
We are all becoming more environmentally conscious these days.  "Green" seems to be the latest buzz word.  My family has been recycling for the past year or so and it amazes us how much we fill up our recycling bin, as opposed to our regular trash bin.  It does make me feel good to know I am doing something so simple, yet helpful to the Earth.  Also, it is a great lesson and habit for my children.

Biotta Organic Juices is another organization that is environmentally
conscious.  Biotta sells unusable by-products from the processing of their fruits and vegetables to farmers for use as organic animal pomace.  Biotta also uses only glass bottles.  This not only allows for full retention of flavor, but for recycling of their bottles, as well.  Even the labels are printed on FSC certified paper, in the effort to meet the social, economic, and ecological needs of present and future generations.

Biotta not only makes delicious fresh juices, but is benefiting our environment at the same time.  Learn more about

Why Organic?
Tuesday, January 26, 2010 by Jennifer C
We hear more and more about the benefits of "going organic".  Grocery stores seem to continue to increase their organic products and more organic markets are popping up.

Let's take a look at the benefits of organic juices.  Organically grown fruits and vegetables have not been sprayed with pesticides, herbicides, or other chemicals.  It is easy to believe that when we rinse our fruits and vegetables they remove any harmful chemicals, but that is not the case.  Chemicals can easily absorb through the fragile skin of many varieties of conventionally grown produce.

All Biotta organic juices are made from naturally grown fruits and vegetables.  The quality of the produce is the nutritional value of their juices.

Beet Juice as a Cleansing Juice
Friday, January 22, 2010 by Jennifer C
The more I learn about beets, the more benefits I see that they have.  Beet juice is a powerful cleanser of the blood, kidneys, and liver.  It has a long history of being a "cleansing juice".  Other benefits are that is has high levels of anti-carcinogens and very high carotenoid content, while being low in fat and an excellent source of folic acid.  Recent studies even show that just two cups of beet juice a day may reduce blood pressure (WebMD, Feb 8, 2008).

Biotta has been committed to organic farming since 1951.  It harvests its fruits and vegetables from healthy, living soil and got on the organic bandwagon many years before organic became popular.  Biotta uses first-class raw products and careful processing as the key to all of Biotta fresh juices.  All of the juices are 100% pure, organic, natural juices that are not made from concentrate or diluted with water.

And where did that name come from?  "Bio" means organic in German.  Tagerwilen is the village in Switzerland where our juices are produced.  Put those two together and you get Biotta, an organic Swiss company and brand.

To see all of the fresh juices Biotta produces and where you can find them, check out our
website today.  We would love to help you with any questions you have!

People are becoming more and more aware of what they are putting into their bodies.  We read labels and check ingredients, often times to find many words that are difficult to even pronounce, let alone understand what they are.

At Biotta Organic Juices we use all fresh, organic ingredients.  When you check our labels you can read and understand everything that goes into our products.  Our Quality Assurance and Research and Development teams play key roles in our premium juices.  Each production batch is monitored and checked throughout the entire process.

Drinking Beet Juice? Good For You!
Thursday, January 14, 2010 by George Pappas

Beets are amazing—the list of heart-healthy benefits keeps growing.  I read an article—actually  more like a Question and Answer column*—where someone had written in and asked if there were any natural ways to lower blood pressure.  This person was taking three drugs for hypertension and high cholesterol, and wanted to know if there were any healthy, organic products that could help lower her blood pressure and cholesterol.

The answer?  Beets.

Beets are Heart-Healthy …
We’ve talked about the benefits of beets and beet juice many times because research and studies have proven them to be true.  According to this article, beets contain powerful compounds that “reduce blood pressure, promote bile flow, ease digestive disorders, improve heart disease, lower cholesterol and prevent cancer.*”

Another benefit of beets and beet juice is that it reduces the risk for blood clots.  According to the same article*, the anti-platelet action of beets reduces the risk for blood clots by dissolving inorganic calcium that can clog up the blood vessels.  In fact, “beets can lower total cholesterol and triglycerides by 30 percent and 40 percent.*”  And a 2008 study in Hypertension found that drinking two cups of beetroot juice reduced blood pressure by up to 10 points, with no major side effects.*

… and Cancer-Fighting!
And then there’s potential cancer-fighting benefits.  Beets contain a compound called betacyanin, which is a powerful cancer fighter, especially when it comes to colon cancer.  Beets may also “negate the effects of eating processed meats laden with dangerous nitrosamines, which may help reduce the potential for stomach cancer.*”

And, if you think we are gangbusters over beets and beet juice, check out
http://www.lovebeetroot.co.uk.  It’s a whole website devoted exclusively to the wonders of beets.  You can find information, recipes, the history of beetroot, and fast facts.**

Biotta Beet Juice
Biotta Beet Juice tastes terrific—so why not make it part of your regular daily nutrition?  Beet juice is Biotta’s most popular juice, rich with natural minerals and vitamins.  It’s a refreshing, crisp, cool and healthy addition to your diet.  Biotta’s Beet Juice is available in 16.9 and 8.4 fl. oz. recyclable glass bottles.

A Great New Year’s Resolution – Drink Biotta Juices!
Monday, January 11, 2010 by George Pappas

I recently read an interesting and informative article on making New Year’s resolutions.  Entitled “Make realistic resolutions for 2010,” the article, written by Jessica Smith, presents a doable approach to New Year’s resolutions.*

Since fitness is often in the top five resolutions people make, it’s important to be realistic in your goals.  The article talks about exercise—types, locations and duration.  The rest of the article deals with weight management, weight loss and proper nutrition.  It presents a sensible approach to this subject, and includes these tips for developing realistic nutritional goals:

  1. Eat more fruits and vegetables.  Interesting that this should be number one on her list.  What better way to get your fruits and vegetables than with Biotta’s 100% all-natural juices?
  2. Eat more whole grains and high-fiber foods.
  3. Eat balanced meals that contain a healthy carbohydrate, lean protein, healthy fat, and a fruit or veggie.  (Fruits and veggies again?  Think Biotta!)
  4. Eat breakfast (Biotta Breakfast Drink?)
  5. Don’t skip meals.
  6. Drink more water.
  7. Limit high-fat foods and fried or greasy foods.
  8. Limit fast food.
  9. Plan your meals before you go grocery shopping.
  10. Pack quick, healthy lunches and snacks to bring to work (Biotta’s single serving bottles are perfect on-the-go).
  11. Try eating 4-6 small meals or snacks per day.
  12. Practice eating slowly.  Stop when you are comfortably satisfied.*
Biotta’s organic juices fit perfectly in a healthy diet regimen.  If eating and feeling healthier is on your New Year’s resolution list, make sure Biotta juices are a part of your plan.
Friday, January 8, 2010 by George Pappas

Sunday, December 27, the San Francisco Chronicle ran a story entitled “Grocery store brands come out on top.”  Written by Amanda Gold, the article detailed research she had done in preparation for a local TV news segment where the subject was advertised brands of food versus grocery store brands, and how they stacked up. *

Local chefs, cookbook authors and food professionals tested products blind, and rated them based on texture, appearance and taste.  The panel of judges considered foods in many categories: snacks, beverages, dairy, fruits and vegetables, breakfast, baked goods, lunch and dinner, sweet and treats, and condiments. Of the vegetable juices they rated, Biotta’s Organic Vegetable Juice Cocktail was the winner.

A well-balanced blend, our Vegetable Juice Cocktail contains
several vital nutrients from freshly gathered organic vegetables: tomatoes, carrots, celeriac and beetroots.  It has a rich tomato base.  Tomatoes contain natural lycopene (a phyto-nutrient) for improved cell function and cell metabolism compromised by environmental influences.  Biotta Vegetable Juice Cocktail is low in calories and contains large amounts of natural vitamin C.

This broad exposure for Biotta juices is the latest in a line of impressive media attention.  Biotta’s first national exposure came last April, when Whoopi Goldberg mentioned Biotta’s all-natural juices on The View.  Recently, our products have also been featured in Shape, OK! and Life & Style magazines, among others.  Be on the lookout in your favorite publications for more information on Biotta natural organic juices.

Every day, we field questions about our Biotta juices—ingredients, potential health benefits, our proprietary manufacturing process, distribution, etc.  We thought that, if a few people are asking these questions, then perhaps many of you would be interested in the answers as well.  When you see our blog featuring The Juice – Your Questions Answered, you’ll know we are answering consumer questions about our 100% organic juices that may be relevant to you.
QUESTION:
I see sugar as one of the ingredients of your Elderberry Juice and Breakfast Juice.  Do
your juices include added sugar?
ANSWER:
Elderberry juice is the only juice where we add sugar—organic cane sugar.  We add it because the elderberry has a very strong, bitter taste without the added sugar.  Elderberry Juice has 34 g of sugar in total; 10.5 g are naturally occurring, and 23.5g are added.
Our Breakfast Juice also lists 22.5g sugar, but all of the sugar content is naturally occurring from the ingredients of the product; there is no sugar added.  Our vegetable juices also contain sugar, but they are all naturally occurring.

Studies continue to show the benefits of organic products.  In the Fall issue of The Organic Report, the News & Trends section features an article on this subject.  It examines recent findings of a study conducted by the University of Aix-Marseille in France, commissioned by the French agency for Food Safety.

The study confirmed “…the high nutritional quality and safety of food produced using organic practices.”*  The benefits include more dry matter, minerals and antioxidant micronutrients than non-organic counterparts.  In addition, the study showed that 100% organic foods have “…significantly lower amounts of nitrates and residues of toxic chemical pesticides, fungicides and herbicide.”*

Biotta Juices – All-Natural. 100% Organic
What do we mean when we say our juices are 100% organic?  Biotta uses only organic farming for all our fruits and vegetables.  For more than 50 years, we’ve been dedicated to producing top-quality organic juices from fruits and vegetables that are fresh from the field to the bottle.  Over the years, Biotta has farmed more than 1,700 acres of chemical-free, fertilizer-free, and toxic-free land.

But, production processes also have a direct influence on the quality of a juice.  The basic rule is: the fewer steps in the production and the lower the processing temperature, the higher the nutritional value of the juice.  Biotta extracts juice from healthy, field/vine-ripened fruits and vegetables.  Competitors often store vegetable juices in tanks to be bottled as needed.  The result is that these juices are repeatedly heated and the quality is diminished.  Biotta bottles our juices immediately after extracting the juice.

And Biotta juices are never reconstituted from concentrates, and no artificial additives (preservatives, vitamins) are used.  Biotta juices are 100% organic, fresh from the field to the bottle.  Great care is taken throughout the growing and production processes to ensure our customers receive the freshest juices available on the market.

In the News – More on the Elderberry
Monday, December 28, 2009 by Sara Cox

I keep reading more and more about the benefits of elderberries.  In the Thursday, December 10 edition of the Indianapolis Star, two articles mention elderberry as an effective weapon to keep you healthy and to help you regain your health when you are ill.

In “Feeling Lousy?  These ideas may get you back in the pink,” author Shari Rudavsky talks about the research that backs up claims for therapies to try when you are ill.  One of the things she mentions is taking elderberry at the first sign of cold or flu.*

In the same issue, another article entitled “Alternatives: Experts Wary” talks about alternative therapies, what the Center for Disease Control and Prevention does and does not endorse, and what you can do to prevent and treat the flu.  The Star asked a number of local experts for their opinions.  Products with elderberry in them ranked high on the list.  That’s because, “…unlike other alternative products, elderberry has performed well in double-blind placebo-controlled studies that have shown that it can shorten the duration of the flu.  These studies, many done on a liquid extract of elderberry called Sambucol, found that elderberry worked best when taken with the onset of symptoms.”**

An article entitled “Are these fruit products as super as they claim?” looks skeptically on some of the newer, more “exotic” fruits, such as acai, goji, mangosteen, and maqui.  But, even this article admits that “…it’s a good idea to try to get more antioxidants into your diet.”***  That’s where the elderberry comes in.  “In general,” explains the article, “darker fruits and vegetables … have higher contents of …naturally occurring chemicals, called phytochemicals, that give them color.  More phytochemicals usually means a higher antioxidant content.”***

In previous posts (About the Elderberry-12/1/09 and The Benefits of Elderberry Juice-12/4/09), we’ve examined the ways elderberry juice can help boost your immune system, ease the strain on the respiratory system, and even help lower cholesterol.  Biotta’s Elderberry Juice is made from freshly gathered, sun-ripened organic elderberries and is available in an 8.4 fl. oz. recyclable glass bottle.

H1N1 is Still a Threat
Wednesday, December 23, 2009 by George Pappas

I heard on the news this morning that, although the cases of reported H1N1 flu are down right now, experts are bracing for another wave yet to come in January.  A recent article in Taste for Life magazine reviewed the common symptoms of the flu—fever, chills, cough, dry throat, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue.  Flu lasts longer than the common cold—sometimes up to 12 days or longer.*  With an increasing number of deaths being linked to this highly contagious virus, it’s a great idea to boost your immune system to help fight off this and other viruses.

Boost Your Immune System
One of the easiest and most effective ways to boost your immune system is with a healthful, balanced diet that includes lots of fruits and vegetables.  Biotta juices are an all-natural way to get the recommended number of fruit and vegetable servings.  In addition, certain juices are specifically believed to boost the immune system—especially elderberry, beet, and carrot juice.

Biotta Elderberry Juice
The Taste for Life article specifically mentioned the immune-building properties of the elderberry.  “While no medicine (herbal or conventional) has yet been definitively proven to kill the H1N1 virus, a recent cell study shows that the flavonoids in elderberry bind to this virus.  Investigators add that these substances ‘compare favorably to the known anti-influenza activities of Oseltamivir (Tamiflu).’”*

Another recent study, cited in a PRWeb® press release** also cited the benefits of elderberries in boosting immunity.  Elderberries have twice the amount of antioxidants as blueberries and cranberries.  Elderberry juice also supplies vitamin C to assist in the prevention and treatment of colds; it’s been medically proven as a strong anti-viral and immune system enhancer.  Biotta’s Elderberry Juice is made from freshly gathered, sun-ripened organic elderberries and is available in an 8.4 fl. oz. recyclable glass bottle.

Kids, Drink Your Vegetables!
Monday, December 21, 2009 by George Pappas

We all know children don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables.  An article in the November 2009 edition of Taste for Life magazine, entitled “eat your veggies,” reported that, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), “only 33 percent of all adults in this country eat two or more daily servings of fruit, and just 27 percent consume the recommended three or more daily servings of vegetables.”*

But the news regarding children is even more dismal.  The article goes on to report that “under 10 percent of American high school students are eating sufficient amounts of fruits and veggies.”*

William H. Dietz, MD, who directs the CDC’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity states, “A diet high in fruits and vegetables is important for optimal child growth, maintaining a healthy weight, and prevention of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and some cancer, all of which currently contribute to healthcare costs in the United States.”*

Drink Biotta 100% Organic Juices
Overall, people who consume sufficient amounts of fruits and vegetables are less likely to have chronic diseases, including stroke, type 2 diabetes, some forms of cancer, and perhaps heart disease.  So, how to get you children to consume the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables?  Give them Biotta all-natural juices.

Can a Balanced pH Help Keep You From Aging?
Thursday, December 17, 2009 by George Pappas

In a recent article in a local Indianapolis suburb newspaper, Dr. Carolyn Berghuis commented on the fact that many health researchers consider a proper pH balance as vital in preventing “premature aging, wrinkles, thyroid dysfunction, cardiovascular disease, impaired memory and many other degenerative diseases.”*

We’ve examined the importance of a balanced pH before in previous
posts .  Because our diets are so acidic, they can make us tired and less productive, with increased feelings of stress, nervousness, lack of energy, decreased concentration and a higher risk of infection.**

When we consume foods that are highly acidic (processed cheese, ice cream, sugar, coffee, fried foods, among others), our bodies use up more energy, “and the cells no longer have the strength and vitality to reproduce in a healthy, anti-aging fashion … energy is used up rebalancing the body system.”*  The good news is that by consuming more alkaline-producing fruits and vegetables, you can adjust your internal chemistry.

Biotta Celery Root Juice
Biotta 100% Organic Celery Root Juice is a delicious way to consume one of the vegetables that helps balance your pH.  According to
http://www.naturalnews.com/024596_celery_blood_salt.html, celery juice is highly nutritious and one of the most hydrating foods we can put in our bodies. Because it is incredibly alkalizing, it equalizes the body's PH, which is vital for peak health. In ancient times, it was considered a medicinal herb used to treat a variety of health complaints. The minerals and vitamins and nutrients are in perfect harmony with each other.*** Celery is high in vitamin A, vitamins B1, B2, B6 and C, potassium, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, sodium and essential amino acids.

We’ve written often about the wonders of beet juice.  Here are a few of the benefits highlighted in recent articles:
1.    Provides energy boost.  A recent study published by Exeter University concluded that drinking two glasses of beetroot juice per day can help people exercise for up to 16% longer.*

2.    Lowers blood pressure.  An online February 4th issue of Hypertension cited a study that showed a drop in blood pressure one hour after drinking beet juice.  The study concluded that two cups of beet juice can lower blood pressure by approximately 10 points.

3.    Increases dietary nitrates – Beet juice increases the amount of nitric oxide in the body.  That, in turn, helps blood vessels relax, lowers blood pressure and has anti-inflammatory benefits as well.**

4.    May assist in helping other illnesses and healthcare issues – Many other sources indicate that beet juice may be therapeutic for sexual weakness, kidney stones, gall bladder, kidney, liver and prostate troubles.***

5.    Aids in digestion problems – Beet juice contains chlorine, a mineral acts to regulate digestion by controlling the rhythmical contraction of the abdomen.***

6.    Builds immune system – Beet juice is also believed to help maintain cell function and strengthen your body’s own natural resistance to disease.

7.    Helps build strong bones – Beet juice contains calcium, important to maintaining bone health.****

8.    Helps fight cancer - Betacyanin is the ingredient that has been identified as the main tumor-fighting agent in beets.  Betacyanin gives beets its bright reddish purple color, and it also helps to detoxify the body, in general.*****
Beet Red
Beets can also be used as a natural food coloring.  In 1971, Red No. 2 dye was linked to cancer and, ever since then, health-conscious consumers have been looking for natural food dyes.  Beets have a distinct red color that can be used as a natural food dye or spray dried to make beet root powder.******

The Amazing Beet
In addition to these wonderful health benefits, did you know that beets can help defeat icy roads?  Seriously. In states like Maryland, beets are being used as a great eco de-icer!  “It is the sugar beet’s by-product—a de-sugared liquid typically fed to animals or flushed down the drain—that can withstand temperatures down to -30 degrees Fahrenheit.”  “…Combinations of beet juice and rock salt are being sprayed on streets and highways by the transportation departments in DC, Missouri and Ohio and in cities scattered throughout the Midwest and Northeast,”*******

Biotta Beet Juice
Uses for the astounding beet just keep multiplying!  At any rate, Biotta Beet Juice is our most popular selection, rich with natural minerals and vitamins.  It’s a refreshing, crisp, cool and healthy addition to your diet.  Biotta’s Beet Juice is available in 16.9 and 8.4 fl. oz. recyclable glass bottles.
